Job Summary

Under the general supervision and direction of the Nurse Manager, Clinical Supervisor or RN renders direct care according to the age and developmental level of the patient in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA Standards of Care and the philosophy, policies and procedures of St. Elizabeth Medical Center and the Nursing department.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Communicates to patients in the following manner: provides atmosphere of acceptance, privacy and respect, keeps a hopeful attitude and focuses on strengths, encourages expression of feelings, thoughts and avoid despair and focus on positive attitude
  • Monitors all patients on safety checks, fall alert, and environmental checks
  • Observes, collects, records and reports on data such as I&O, vital signs, weights, behaviors, verbalizations, etc.
  • Reports any changes or concerns of patients and families to charge nurse
  • Performs specimen collection (urine C&S, urinalysis, 24hr. urine, stool for culture/guiac, sputum), patient transfer techniques utilizing proper body mechanics and equipment, and assists physicians/physician extenders on rounds as needed
  • Recognizes emergent patient care situations and reports findings to an RN.
  • Promotes and maintains overall cleanliness of the unit and replenishes stock items on the unit.
  • Keeps informed of current developments within own area of practice (i.e., communication book, staff meetings, etc.)
  • Renders safe and appropriate direct patient care such as bathing/bedmaking, ambulation, feeding, toileting, positioning, orientation to unit and program, etc.

Education/Experience Requirements

Required: High School graduate or equivalent.
Preferred: Previous experience as a Nurse Assistant or recent nursing school experience helpful but not required.
