Job Overview

The Project Manager in Compliance is a key leader for TerraCycle, reporting to a Operations Director, and will work with a global, multidisciplinary team on strategic and innovative projects related to compliance matters and risk management for operating complex waste recycling supply chains such as used diapers, electronic cigarettes, and insulin pens.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivering strategic and innovative projects on-time, within budget and to a high standard of quality
  • Coordinate and communicate between cross-functional stakeholders and project sponsors, including senior leaders, to prevent, mitigate, and control environmental compliance risks from operations, supply chain, equipment, and materials to protect employees, the business, communities, and the environment
  • Able to interpret, and assess existing or emerging environmental and sustainability laws, regulations, regulatory policy, and industry practices; determine and communicate operational and business impacts
  • Assess current and proposed operations globally and develop plans for environmental compliance continuous improvement including but not limited to:
  • material assessment, acceptance, and handling,
  • facility and operations permitting and environmental compliance,
  • material movement and logistics,
  • data and document retention and reporting, and
  • national, regional, and local business advocacy
  • Act as primary technical contact for Sales and Business Development on environmental compliance matters.
  • Function in a tactical role regarding agency enforcement actions, regulatory proposals, permitting issues and negotiations, technical environmental and scientific support, assessment and control of environmental compliance items
  • Assist in management of compliance consultant scopes of work, deliverables, and associated timelines.
  • Support the Sales and Technical teams to design and promotion of new innovative projects and product ideas through pre-assessing feasibility in terms of regulations.
  • Organize and prioritize workload efficiently to manage multiple projects concurrently, leading all phases of the projects from planning through to executing, reviewing, and closing
  • Capture learnings and suggest improvements during and after each project
Requirements:

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in a quantitative discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years relevant experience in project management, sustainability or operations.
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Capable to understand global and environmental legal requirements (i.e.: regulations, codes, standards, directives, and administrative policies)
  • Exceptional project management skills including the ability to understand and distill project objectives, lead collaboration of all stakeholders, manage tasks and timelines
  • Experience in delivering products and services from an initial idea, right into the hands of a customer.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including oral and written communication, collaboration, clarity, and presentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to ideate and implement solutions with a wide range of stakeholders.
