Position Description

The YEP Enriches Program Assistant will function as a key member of the enrichment team, helping to implement the core content areas of YEP’s enrichment programming (Sports & Recreation, Academics, Music & Arts, and Health & Wellness) while providing daily supervision to youth participants. The Program Assistant will work as a part of a team of staff to prepare and deliver enrichment activities as well as maintain the space and inventory of YEP’s programming space so that programming can operate efficiently. The Program Assistant will also help with implementing a variety of field trips, outings, special events and celebrations that are routinely a part of the YEP Enriches programming. Program Assistants are part-time, hourly members of the YEP Enriches team and are supervised by the Director of YEP Enriches.

Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Assist with the delivery of high quality enrichment programming to youth participants
• Assist with planning and implementation of special events and holiday celebrations for youth and families
• Communicate with parents, guardians, community members, and partner organizations, as necessary or directed
• Assist with set-up for snacks, meals and onsite activities based on weekly program schedule
• Ensure Youth Center remains in good working condition and supplies and equipment are well maintained and properly stocked
• Ensure that youth are safe and that are supervised at all times
• Build a positive relationship with each youth in your care, and foster positive connections between participants
• Redirect youth behaviors that are inappropriate and consult with the supervisor regarding repetitive or escalating behaviors
• Model prosocial behaviors for youth
• Work effectively with YEP staff, interns, and volunteers
• Document services provided to youth participants in YEP’s ETO database, as appropriate.
• Maintain regular meetings with the direct supervisor

Content Area Support

• Work collaboratively to plan and implement onsite content area programming and activities
• Assist with the implementation of content area for offsite field trips and outings, ensuring that youth are adequately supervised throughout their time off-site
• Work collaboratively with the YEP Enriches team to incorporate health and wellness, sports and recreation, music and arts, and educational activities into YEP’s Afterschool and Summer Camp schedule
• Work in conjunction with external contractors to support youth engagement in externally facilitated programming
• Assist with administering any surveys and assessments relevant to the YEP Enriches programming that youth are participating in

Key Outcomes

• Successfully deliver and support structured enrichment programming
• Core processes and programming schedules are implemented as designed
• Core elements of YEP Enriches programming are successfully integrated into YEP’s year round enrichment programming, and participating youth indicate satisfaction and/or growth
• YEP Enriches is a safe space where youth feel welcomed, supported and actively engaged.

Qualifications

• Experience working with school-aged youth in a structured programming environment.
• Highly collaborative approach, very comfortable working with a team to accomplish goals.
• Demonstrated ability to follow through on assigned duties through completion.
• Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology in order to accomplish key job responsibilities.
• Ability to regularly work late-afternoon/ evening hours and occasional weekends
• Familiarity with neighborhoods and community resources specific to New Orleans East
• Commitment to YEP’s organizational values and goals.

Training

All Program Assistants will receive comprehensive on-the-job training from veteran YEP Enriches staff members. Additional training occurs throughout the first six weeks as well as ongoing professional development opportunities.

Hours/Compensation

This part-time role will require 20 - 25 hours of work per week. Work will be performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 2:00pm and 6:00pm with occasional weekends or later evenings.

The rate of pay for this part-time position is $15 per hour.
