Summary: Oversees the lean manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts of Harrison Steel. Responsible for evaluating work processes to determine strategies and programs which provide greater productivity and efficiency of company functions. Implements the Harrison Steel Production System, including lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, and Standards Driven Process methods to reduce manufacturing variation and develop adaptive management strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages Harrison Steel's lean manufacturing Harrison Production System (HPS):
    • Develops project plans for implementing improvements
    • Monitors plan implementation through performance metrics and indicators
    • Supports execution of the plan
  • Develops and delivers programs to team members to make continuous improvement part of everyday operations including:
    • Various problem solving and productivity techniques
    • Process mapping
    • Cost time management
    • Lean processes
  • Develops project road maps, project timelines on all strategic project.
  • Drives training, new training strategies, and training process development
  • Reviews and evaluates processes and offers recommendations for improvements (safety, ergonomic, efficiency, cost, customer satisfaction, workflow, etc.).
  • Develops strategies and programs that improve productivity and efficiency of various work processes of the company.
  • Manages the 5S program, continuous improvement process, and value stream transformations.
  • Leads workshops with cross-functional teams to identify wastes and implement focused improvements.
  • Facilitates multiple activities with individuals from different departments and levels within the organization.
  • Assesses effectiveness of business functions and develops and measures performance management metrics.
  • Assists in special corporate projects and the execution of these projects.
  • Supports the Director and Vice President of Operations. Works closely with department heads, process engineers, and associates.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Program Management or a related field from a four-year college or university required.
  • Minimum of six to twelve months training or experience in Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing management required.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., MiniTab, Stata, etc.) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills strongly preferred. The ability to interact with internal technical staff and external suppliers and customers in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Work Environment:

The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and fumes or airborne particles, and is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Also exposure to outdoor weather conditions, non-weather related extreme cold, water and humidity, and the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The usual noise level is very loud. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
