Job Summary/Purpose
The product manager is responsible for the creation of analytics products for internal business customers. The analytics product manager will lead product teams organized into “analytics pods.” Each pod will be comprised of multiple roles from both the analytics team and the business organizations, including data scientists, data engineers, product designers, software engineers, and business subject matter experts. This role requires the oversight of individual product team members, ensuring they have the resources they need to deliver analytics products. The product manager will work with a product owner to ensure the product vision is realized.

Analytics products are a combination of software, data, and other digital tools that provide insights and recommendations that business leaders may use to make tactical and strategic decisions. The analytics products may leverage a combination of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics approaches. These approaches include reports, dashboards, streaming data, regression models, learning models, spatial models, and other analytics techniques. The Analytics Product Manager need not be an expert in these various analytics products as the primary focus of the role is to leverage a repeatable product delivery process to bring analytics products into service and use by business customers. However, the manager should be able to understand the range of analytics products the organization can deliver and is able to lead a team of diverse individuals.

The analytics product manager will follow a repeatable product delivery process leveraging product development best practices. Products will be designed and delivered following an agile development methodology and human centered design practices. Products should be designed and developed putting the experience of the customer at the forefront. The product manager will develop a deep understanding of the business problem the product is attempting to resolve and work with the product owner to ensure the expected benefits to the company are realized.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Lead product teams comprised of a diverse set of individuals. Manage a team of product managers responsible for successful day-to-day agile delivery of prioritized analytics products within each business domain.
  • Work closely with product owners to ensure the vision for the product is realized, including expected product features and business benefits.
  • Develop product roadmaps that guide product development over time.
  • Lead the overall development of products following an agile scrum framework partnering with the data analytics platform team, IT, and other external teams such as supply chain, legal, information security, and internal audit.
  • Follow an end-to-end product delivery process, from early phases of exploration, customer friction and opportunity identification, product development, minimal viable product testing, and finally ensuring the product is seamlessly transitioned to the product operations team.
  • Ensure effective communication, defined accountabilities, and ways of working with the other teams within the analytics organization (such as customer strategy, platform, operations, etc.) to drive our overall mission is well defined at the onset of kicking-off a new product team.
  • Work with the senior manager of analytics products to identify and implement ways to improve the product development process.
  • Coach, mentor, and help development individual product team members by giving them feedback, understand individual development needs, providing feedback to management, and creating a work environment for team members that is challenging, meaningful, and fun.
  • Manage product budgets. Track spending, create forecasts, and work with senior management to address budget issues.
  • Knowledgeable in agile and trained as a scrum master. Fully understands and uses the feature and user stories defined by the Product Owner to incorporate into product development. Schedule work into sprints, remove barriers inhibiting progress and report status to deliver products on the data analytics platform. Create a work rhythm for product teams that includes sprint planning, feature prioritization, daily stand-ups, retroactive reviews, and product ceremonies.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum education & experience required of the position
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience with delivering solutions with real business impact. In lieu of degree, 8+ years of experience with delivering solutions with real business impact
  • 2+ years in product management or overall solution delivery lead role.
  • Experience leading technical (software and/or hardware development) and non-technical project teams
  • Experience in product development delivery from idea/ opportunity, assessment, POC/ MVP, and end to end industrialization and business adoption strategies.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
  • Product management experience with ability to manage time and schedules to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Business domain expertise, energy expertise, and/or IT/analytics/digital expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively both to internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong business knowledge of Agile frameworks and practices, and experience with working in an Agile organization. Experience in JIRA is must.
