Position Summary

The responsibility of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Specialist is to ensure compliance, review and assist with MOC, manage audits as they relate to the Process Safety Management program. The qualified individual will also be accountable for the Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) program at GPC-Washington.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for the GPC-Washington PSM and DHA programs. This will consist of:
  • Oversight of the Management of Change process for covered processes
  • Ensure compliance with the 14-Elements of PSM
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 652: Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust and NFPA 61: Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions in Agricultural and Food Processing Facilities
  • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA)
    • Facilitate PHA and DHA, new and revalidation
    • Manage the Leader software
  • Lead and manage PSM and DHA audits, both internal and third party
  • Oversee Process Safety Start Up Review (PSSR) for changes to the covered process
  • Manage audit findings and PHA/DHA recommendations
  • Participate in PSM Incident Investigations
  • Facilitate the quarterly PSM Steering Committee meetings
  • Collaborate with engineering on the location and storage of Process Safety Information (PSI) for the covered processes to include equipment involved in producing products which generate combustible dust
  • Partner with maintenance on ensuring mechanical integrity testing is being completed on covered process equipment
  • Provide guidance to covered departments on ensuring consistency with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) expectations
  • Collaborate with covered departments on ensuring operator training is being done per PSM program requirements and that documentation of training is being stored consistent with Record Retention policies
  • Partners with the site Contractor Safety Specialist to ensure that all contractors coming onto GPC property to work have proper training to safely and efficiently complete their tasks
  • Partner with facility management to drive accountability for completion of action items from the MOC process, PHA recommendations, DHA recommendations, and audit findings.
  • Actively demonstrates and reinforces compliance to all company policies, rules, and guidelines to all employees and contractors
  • Participates in contractor audits with the Contractor Safety Specialist to verify compliance with contractor prequalification requirements for contractor companies

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field of study (Engineering, Safety, or Environmental) or equivalent work experience required

Experience & Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience and leadership in a Process Management role
• Management of Change (MOC) experience including submission, review, and completion
• Third party PSM training including PSM fundamentals and Leader Software training
• Ability to make decisions independently and to take initiative with limited supervision
• Excellent communication skills to provide guidance, facilitate meetings, and tactfully hold others accountable
• Results driven to provide support to achieve stated goals
• Strong organizational skills
• Problem solving skills and sound decision making
