POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Printing Supervisor, the operator is responsible for the operation of prepress, printing, and maintaining machinery in order to produce a product of utmost quality that meets and satisfies customer needs. The operator works safely and productively, producing a high quality product while maintaining the work environment.

EXPERIENCE:

4-5 years Flexographic printing experience required. Prepress, mounting, and ink blending needed.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or G.E.D.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Wide web, central impression (CI)
  • Ability to read tape measure
  • Basic computer aptitude/skills
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Ability to setup and run W&H, F&K, or Bobst flexographic printing press
  • 10-color experience
  • Film printing operation experience
  • Ability to blend colors and match colors
  • Ability to mount and organize prepress

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Good oral and written communication skills

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

May have occasional exposure to chemical hazards, hot surfaces, moving parts or noise that may result from performance of duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

In summary, the position will require lifting up to ninety (90) pounds with frequent lifting and/or moving of objects up to seventy-five (75) pounds and occasional maneuvering of objects over
100 lbs. Requires use of both hands with occasional repetitive hand movements. Visual acuity required for reading and computer work. Frequent bending, stooping, and stair climbing required with occasional reaching and squatting required. Requires 80% standing and/or walking and 20% sitting. Workweek includes five 8-hour shifts; might be altered depending on business demand.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with Printing Team in the safe production of quality printing while minimizing scrap and maximizing production rates.
  • Completes quality checks as dictated by customer specifacations.
  • Works safely and promotes safe work practices amongst other Operators.
  • Keeps inkroom, mounting, and general area clean at all times.
  • Works as contributing member of a team, offering help and support to others as needed.
  • Shows common courtesy and respect for other members of the team.
  • Reports all safety hazards immediately to Printing Manager or Safety Coordinator.
  • Reports all machine problems immediately to Printing Manager.
  • Reads all order paperwork thoroughly, ensuring that all special instructions are followed carefully.
  • Helps with writing and adjusting procedures for higher level of efficiency.
  • Carefully loads, unloads, labels and moves pallets to and from staging areas.
  • Prepares cores, boxes and other commodities well ahead.
  • Prepares for next shift as needed.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Doffs, handles and weighs rolls safely and carefully making sure that no product damage occurs.
  • Fills out all production paperwork neatly and correctly and turns it in on time.
  • Problem solves issues on machine.
  • Asks for help as needed.
  • Assists in mounting, graphics, and inkroom.
  • Carfully loads sleeves and Anilox rollers without damaging parts.
  • Assists in cleaning and auditing of Anilox Rollers and Sleeves.
  • Controls machine impression and registration on setups.
  • Utilizes Computer recipes and other storage devices on machine once trained.
  • Must be able to color match and tone ink.
  • Maintains viscosity to ensure proper color is achieved.
  • Makes consistant checks of tensions, heats and pressures to ensure proper roll formation.
  • Assists in changeovers as needed once trained.
  • Assists in carfully building doctor blades, ink pumps and cleaning of parts.
  • Assists in maintaing supplies.
  • Monitors raw materials and keeps adequate supply.
  • Monitors process, noting any significant changes.
  • Keeps up with scrap, weighing and reporting accurately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour
