Our Practice Management department is looking for a business consultant to work with our team and enterprise clients as part of our dynamic and growing business consulting group. The ideal candidate will bring creative problem-solving skills, energy, passion, technical expertise, and emotional intelligence to this position, which requires the integration of business and finance acumen with the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively work with clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Consulting with ensemble and enterprise firms to help them determine the best business model to achieve their long-term goals, drive growth, build scale, and create an enduring legacy
  • Engaging with Commonwealth’s largest and most complex enterprise clients, addressing a broad range of factors related to organizational structure, leadership roles, infrastructure, financial management, and compensation systems
  • Supporting ensemble transformation to equity-based ownership structures by creating pro forma financial models, mapping compensation systems, determining partnership criteria, and designing frameworks to add or transition partners
  • Helping firms put financial structures in place to properly track, monitor, and benchmark financial performance and identify actionable implications
  • Guiding advisors as they scale their businesses, introduce a tiered service matrix, and optimize their time to achieve growth
  • Providing insight as firms navigate difficult team dynamics and productively address conflict
  • Collaborating extensively with the other Practice Management consulting teams to provide holistic support for all phases of the business life cycle
  • Presenting at Practice Management programs and Commonwealth conferences
  • Contributing articles to brand publications

Core Strengths and Skills

  • Deep understanding of the issues facing small business owners
  • Ability to clearly communicate nuanced concepts and navigate complex interpersonal dynamics when they arise
  • Strong Excel modeling, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret financial statements
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-demand, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work as both a collaborative team member and an individual contributor
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent listening and follow-up skills
  • 10+ years of experience working with financial advisors, in small business management, or as a business consultant
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or specialized master’s degree preferred
