Description

Oversees the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of the Power and Production Department (Wet End) of Hutchinson’s Evaporated Salt Facility. Responsible for the overall production activities of salt, steam, power generation, and associated operations, and the site’s wellfield and brine treating operations. Compensation $100k - $150k, depending on qualifications and experience.

Accountabilities

  • Accountable for ensuring that all work performed in the department is executed with safety as the highest priority
  • Accountable for maintaining high levels of EHS&Q performance and compliance with plant, company, and regulatory requirements.
  • Accountable for the Wet End Operations (including Well fields, Pan house, MVR, Boiler and Engine room operations.
  • Manages area budget / cost, volume and quality. Manages small project capital budget.
  • Accountable for the effective management and training of departmental supervisors, engineers, and operators.
  • Manages equipment and process reliability and ensures predictive and proactive maintenance processes are sustained.
  • Works with other departments to meet plant goals and commitments.
  • Participates in Production and Maintenance coordination with a strong emphasis on proactive planning
  • Ensures the department is using standard business processes.
  • Delivers on special project assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in capital budgeting and project planning and execution of departmental CAPEX and OPEX
  • Participates in succession planning activities.
  • Develops area manufacturing strategy and cascades the strategy to establish individual employee expectations.
  • Completes compliance requirements, including compliance matrix, and other training for position, as required.
  • Responsible for maintaining safety, quality, and legality of all product and ensuring employees do likewise
  • Must ensure principles of HACCP are followed throughout the plant and by all employees
  • The Senior Engineer will perform the duties of the Power & Production Manager when on vacation or absent; therefore the P & P Manager will need to mentor and coach the Senior Engineer on a regular basis
  • The Power and Production Manager could be called on to perform the duties of the General Manager when on vacation or absent.
  • Performs other related duties, as required.

  • Ensures regulatory and corporate compliance.
  • Manages EHS Performance.
  • Leads by example and ensures employees understand their responsibilities related to EHS & Q as a first priority, including stopping work if the task or operation poses a safety, environmental or Quality risk.

  • Ensures department goals are aligned with plant business imperatives.
  • Ensures performance goals are met.
  • Establishes and ensures achievement of all unit Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensures compliance with corporate standards (e.g., financial, code of business conduct) and adherence to company policies.
  • Manages area budget / cost, volume and quality.
  • Supports business processes and requirements.
  • Serves as a corporate steward.

People Management/Development

  • Promotes open and honest communication.

  • Manages employee and labor relations matters in conjunction with Human Resources, as appropriate.
  • Ensures systems and processes are in place to maintain smooth operations during employee absences and staffing changes.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or other related technical degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience, including a minimum of three (3) years Production/Technical/ Maintenance management experience.

Management experience is preferred.
