Postdoctoral Appointee in Epigenetics and Metabolism Job at Indiana University

Indiana University Indianapolis, IN 46202

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nuria Morral, in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, and Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis. The successful candidate will join a NIH-funded research group studying epigenetic mechanisms of transcription regulation. The lab is studying how nutrients influence chromatin dynamics and key stages of the transcription cycle. These mechanisms are disrupted under conditions of overnutrition, contributing to insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The selected candidate will join a team working with mouse models of NAFLD and type 2 diabetes, using a variety of biochemical and molecular biology assays (immunoblots, qPCR, primary cell culture, cloning, virus-mediated gene transfer, high-throughput sequencing, etc).

The mission of the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases is to support and enhance basic and translational diabetes research. Core services include (i) an Islet and Physiology Core; (ii) an Imaging Core that provides molecular imaging including intravital microscopy; (iii) a Translation Core that provides analytic laboratory services and access to human samples; (iv) a Swine Core that capitalizes on extensive institutional expertise using the Ossabaw pig model in metabolic and cardiovascular research; (v) a Systems and Informatics Core that provides a suite of proteomics and genomics services coupled to bioinformatics. The Center has a strong commitment to educate and advance the careers of next-generation diabetes researchers.
