Argonne National Laboratory Lemont, IL 60439

The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division as Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a postdoctoral appointee. With mentoring, the candidate will conduct research in heterogeneous catalysis for the fundamental understating of the activation of small molecules. The project will involve designing, synthesizing, and characterizing new inorganic nanostructured materials; in-situ characterization of reacting catalyst systems; and then evaluating the catalytic activity of these catalysts for the activation and functionalization of small molecules such as light alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, arenes, CO2 and N2. The successful candidate will undergo more detailed studies towards understanding the reaction mechanisms and determining the reaction kinetics.
Position Requirements
  • Knowledge in the synthesis, characterization, and testing of various types catalytic materials, including inorganic/organometallic materials, advance synchrotron based X-ray characterization and interfacial processes, in-situ characterization of reacting catalyst system, and synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials
  • Kinetics and mechanistic analyses of heterogeneous catalysts are essential
  • Experience nanoparticle synthesis would be an asset
  • Considerable skill in written and oral communication is a requirement
  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in organic, organometallic, or inorganic Chemistry or Chemical Engineering at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience
