POSITION OVERVIEW

Kiewit had 2021 revenues of $13 billion and employs around 27,500 staff and craft employees. We are adding a mid to senior level Port Engineer to our team to support Dredging projects.


As a Port Engineer, you will ensure the safety of the vessel, and have a thorough understanding of ship/vessel repair and mechanics. You will be expected to manage maintenance, repairs and modifications to assigned equipment and ensure assigned personnel and equipment comply with regulatory requirements and company requirement.

DISTRICT OVERVIEW

Our heavy civil experience, combined with privately owned equipment fleet, allows us to provide cost and schedule certainty to projects of any size. Our past experience includes concrete, steel, cast in place box, flat slab, railroad trestle and arch bridges, bridge widening, bascule and swing bridges, box culverts, storm drainage, erosion control, dike and levee construction, concrete paving, tunnels and sound barriers. Our Marine experience includes lock and dam repairs, docks, demolition, Navy wharfs, water intake structures, steel, concrete, composite and timber piling, fender systems, dolphins, piers, dredging, marinas and LNG facilities.

LOCATION

This position will be located in either the Houma LA, office, Covington LA, or Camden NJ offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and implement preventative and routine maintenance procedures, ensuring equipment on the vessel meet all requirements
  • Prepare and submit maintenance and capital budgets for assigned equipment
  • Prepare specifications, scheduling and management of shipyard periods
  • Supervision of all maintenance personnel (including vessel personnel when in port)
  • Approve/generate requisitions for spare parts and vendor services.
  • Maintain spare parts inventories
  • Approve/generate work orders, change orders and AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure)
  • Frequent equipment and jobsite visits and inspection
  • Ensure compliance of company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in related field
  • Associate degree or higher in a marine engineering, maritime operations or related engineering discipline preferred, or commiserate experience which could include military and naval experience
  • Technical understanding of construction and maintenance of marine vessels
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Proficient skills in standard office software packages
  • 3+ years Supervisory experience
  • Ability to work flexible schedule with additional hours as needed
  • This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language and understand hand signals
  • Willingness to travel as necessary and work on Dredging Vessels or related maritime vessels


Required Certifications or Licenses

  • Valid US Driver’s license and TWIC card (willing to obtain if not already held)


Physical Requirements


  • Must be willing to take a post-offer physical
  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend, or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders that have capacity limits of 300 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts, up to 50 lbs. unassisted
