PURPOSE
Mapleton City is seeking a Planning Technician or Planner (depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate) to assist the Community Development Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs a variety of general and specialized professional planning functions which include current and long-range planning; manages activities relating to assigned projects; provides information and assists developers, the business community and the public on land use, planning and development related matters; maintains the Community Development Department’s GIS data.
Reviews subdivision, conditional use, site plan, rezone, master development plan, general plan amendment, building permits and other development applications for conformity with city ordinances; provides zoning, land-use and other code information to developers, property owners, contractors and the general public. Assists in the development and preparation of Planning Commission and City Council staff reports, agendas, presentations and other information. Handles zoning code enforcement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Planning Technician - Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school; plus, two (2) years of specialized training in building, planning or zoning office practices and procedures;

AND One (1) year of responsible experience related to above duties;

OR An equivalent combination of education or experience.

GIS experience is desirable.

Planner - Education and Experience:

Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in urban planning, public administration or a closely related field;

AND Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing above or related duties;

OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

GIS experience is desirable
