Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant - FT Job at Drew Memorial Hospital
Job Summary
Obtains and prepares specimens for analysis in the clinical
laboratory. Clerical duties necessary
to process specimens for testing.
Role and
Responsibilities
1. Observe
professional ethics by maintaining confidential information acquired
concerning the personal, financial, medical, or employment status of DMH
patients and employees.
2. Collect
laboratory specimens using proper phlebotomy and patient identification
techniques.
3. Follow
accepted safety practices for patient and hospital. Comply with OSHA and regulatory
requirements and keep a safe laboratory environment.
4. Perform
other assigned clerical duties such as scanning reports, filing, and
organizing orders.
5. Work
effectively as a team member within the laboratory department and with other
units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and
collaboration.
6. Maintain
flexibility required to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and
scheduling.
7. Perform
other job duties as requested or directed.
Qualifications
and Education Requirements
1. High School graduate or equivalent required
2. Completion
of an accredited phlebotomy program or previous experience as a phlebotomist
in a clinical setting preferred

Basic computer and customer service
skills preferred
Physical Requirements:
This
position may require physical activities such as balancing, climbing,
crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching,
standing, stooping, and use of fingers and repetitive movements. An
individual in this position may be required to carry or lift weight of up to
50 lbs. and push/pull 100-150 lbs. The sensory and communicative
activities required for this position include feeling, hearing, seeing,
smelling, and speaking. Individuals in this position could possibly be
exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens and
body fluids, chemical hazards, respiratory hazards and radiological hazards.
Safety:
Incumbent must be attentive at all times to their own personal safety,
as well as the safety of patients, their families, visitors and employees of
Drew Memorial Hospital. Hazardous and/or potentially hazardous conditions are
to be immediately reported to a member of management. In accordance with Act
593, this position is considered a “Safety Sensitive Position,” as it
requires the incumbent to work with confidential information or documents
that may pertain to criminal investigations. Performing
life-threatening procedures, working with confidential information or
documents pertaining to criminal investigations, or Working with hazardous or
flammable materials, controlled substances, food, or medicine.
