The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our team! Under the general direction of the pharmacist in charge, the Certified Pharmacy Technician performs processes required for preparing consumer’s prescriptions according to the rules and regulations of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy for both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy functions as well as performing the duties and tasks associated with the Pyxis Med station and/or assisting customers in the enrollment to Patient Assistance Programs.


What you will do:

  • Preparing prescriptions.
  • Pre-packing of supplies, generating reports, & maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
  • Conducts monthly unit inspections where medications are dispensed, stored, and administered. Identifies and retrieves outdated supplies
  • Order pharmaceuticals and supplies in a manner that optimizes cost and contract compliance.
  • Compliant with agency educational and licensure requirements.
  • Will work days, evenings, week-ends & holidays
  • As essential personnel will b expected to report to work to maintain NPC Pharmacy open during emergency situations.
  • Enters patient information accurately
  • Assist patients with prescribing to Patient Assistance Programs to acquire “free medication” where applicable and appropriate for the patient.
  • Compliant with agency educational and licensure requirements.
  • Enters patient information accurately into Pharmacy Computer system.
  • Enters correct medication information, including medication, strength & route.
  • Must be knowledgeable of CPEP formulary to answer questions from physicians, nurses as to what medications available & strengths
  • Prepares unit of use when possible
  • Pyxis MEd station responsibilities:
    • Pulling correct unit dose medications
    • Filling medications correct into unit of use bins.
    • Reconcile dispensed/ordered medication report
  • Performs monthly nursing unit inspections: PES/CSU/CRU/PH-CRU

What qualifications you will need:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician License through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
  • 3 years related experience required in working in a pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and 30 days training with Pyxis MEd Station and/or Pharmacy Assistance Program (PAP) functions with another 30 days of independent display of these skills monitoring to determine proficiency prior to totally independent work in this area.
  • The person must have well-developed interpersonal, organizational skills, be a team player with a desire to provide quality work.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate and able to use software effectively.
  • Should also demonstrate a proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to effectively converse and listen to others and construct clear and concise written communication.
  • Ability to identify and offer solutions to resolve problems, using knowledge of the organization to identify helpful resources.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

    Act consistent with all legal requirements relating to pharmacy technician practice, including Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
    Refrain from any behavior that violates legal or professional ethical standards, including all criminal laws, Federal laws and agency regulations, and State laws and regulatory agency rules.
    Refrain from conduct that is threatening, intimidating, harassing, or deceptive when acting within a professional role.
    Maintain good standing with all applicable governmental or quasi-governmental agencies governing pharmacy technician practice.

This is a Full Position that provides both Inpatient Pharmacy Care and Outpatient Retail Pharmacy care.

The shift does vary for this position and is expected to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays ,and provide disaster response as needed.
