Reviews and interprets the prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients using computerized patient profiles to ensure the appropriateness of dosage and to determine the significance of potential drug-drug interactions.

Contacts and confers with healthcare providers concerning the appropriate drug, dose, dosing interval, drug allergy and drug-drug interaction.

Fills automated dispensing machines and accurately prepares and dispenses appropriate amount of inpatient and outpatient medication.

Charges for drugs and pharmaceutical supplies to clients as required

Always maintains high level of physical security in pharmacy (door locked, safe, closed and locked, alarmed when closed.

Ensures that proper medical waste procedures are in use for any medical waste generated by activities of pharmacist and nurses.

Ensures compliance with all State Board of Pharmacy policies/practices.

Performs in an effective and efficient manner with consistent current Pharmacy standards, protocols, policies, and procedures.

Trains pharmacy staff on applicable policies and procedures related to pharmacy services as required.

Participates in staff, management, and provider meetings as needed.

Ensures quality and reputable sources of all drugs procured on behalf of agency (Drug Quality & Security Act).

• Over-utilization or under-utilization
• Therapeutic duplication
• Drug-disease contraindications
• Drug-drug interactions
• Incorrect drug dosage or duration of drug treatment
• Dug-allergy interactions; or
• Clinical abuse/misuse

Interacts with others in a manner which encourages harmonious working relationships, enhances the image and reputation of the agency and promotes positive customer relations.

Answers patient questions related to pharmacology issues in confidential, informative matter.
