CARDIOTEK Perfusion Services is part of one of the most elite Cardiac Surgical Programs in the nation. We are searching for a team player to join our group as a Full-Time Perfusion Assistant.

The Perfusion Assistant works under the direction of the perfusionists, providing assistance with perfusion services throughout Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In addition, the individual may participate in rotating shifts, covering nights and days.

The primary focus will be on autotransfusion with an opportunity to expand to perfusion departments after PBMT training has been completed.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Setting up, troubleshooting, and operating several pieces of equipment during open heart surgery.
• Assisting the perfusionist, monitoring the patient during bypass, and maintaining a cart of emergency supplies that might be needed during a bypass run.
• Maintain optimal communication, close cooperation, and consultation with perfusionists and physicians during the delivery of services.
• Provide autologous blood recovery and biologic therapy as required
• Maintain appropriate inventory, equipment, and maintenance of equipment. Assist with the transport of equipment and evaluation of new equipment or process.
• Completion of quality assurance protocols as established by the perioperative blood management program.
• Assist with the preparation of the heart-lung machine under the direct supervision of the perfusionist
• Maintain proficiency with the operation and maintenance of a variety of autologous blood equipment and procedures such as autologous cell salvage, production of concentrated platelet-rich plasma
• Maintain appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation including a pre-procedure checklist and filing of all records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Must have excellent communication skills, be able to think critically, and work efficiently in both team and independent settings.
• Physical Requirement: In fulfilling these duties, the perfusion assistant must be able to stand/walk 3-6 hours/day, lift or carry up to 50 pounds 3-4 times/day, and push/pull up to 400 pounds 2-3 times/day.
• Exposure to hazardous biological materials is a common occurrence as is exposure to bodily fluids.
• Exposure to infectious diseases or chemotherapeutic agents is a possibility.
