The Peer Review Coordinator serves as a highly visible, energetic leader and champion for the peer review process. The Peer Review Coordinator is responsible for the daily management of the peer review process and rCare peer review module application and related processes and business rules. The peer review process includes: The detection of event or trends based peer review guidelines as defined by Medical Executive Committee, escalation of safety issues to senior leadership; analysis of peer review data; prioritization of investigations and conducting investigation in preparation for peer review process, and facilitates the peer review meetings. The Peer Review Coordinator ensures established policies, procedures, business rules, accreditation standards and just culture principles are applied related to the RHS Peer Review System. The Peer Review Coordinator provides oversight for the Peer Review related data management functions and processes consistent with RHS standards for data collection and reporting. The Peer Review Coordinator oversees and coordinates improvement projects as assigned. The Peer Review Coordinator works closely and collaboratively with medical, nursing and other clinical leadership for ongoing support for the RHS Peer Review process and system. The Peer Review Coordinator provides at least quarterly as well as year-end summary of the Peer Review activities for the Medical Executive Committee. The Peer Review Coordinator at RRMC will report to the RRMC Quality Director and dotted line to Vice President of Medical Management Services to support as a system resource for coordinating data for the unified medical staff and coordination of the collaborative peer review committee

What you will do
  • Leader in identifying and using multiple methods for case finding using triggers, quality screens, complication reports, and mortality reports as well as rCare risk/safety event reports, patient/family complaints, EPIC reports, service line dashboards, etc.
  • Conducts an initial review and develops a case summary if the case requires further review. The case summary should identify focused questions for review by the Chief Medical Officer. In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and Quality Director, identifies cases appropriate for referral to peer review.
  • The Peer Review Coordinator will manage the rCare Peer Review Process. (A) Cases referred to peer review are entered into the rCare Peer Review module, and require a case summary with timeline when appropriate, with focused questions posed to the assigned peer reviewer. (B) Follows up with assigned peer reviewer to assure timely responses and referral to the appropriate Peer Review committee for further discussion and adjudication. (C) Maintains an electronic log with the status report of peer review cases by medical specialty that includes cases identified for potential external peer review. Assures all peer reviewed cases have a completed analysis, conclusions, recommendations and actions documented in both the case summary.
  • Facilitates the Peer Review Committees and ensures relevant peer review committee minutes are accurate, complete, and managed to maintain appropriate peer review protection of the patient safety work product.
  • Provides coordination for data aggregation and reports for the Chief Medical Officer and local and system Medical Executive Committees.
Education
  • ADN, BSN, MSN or nursing diploma required.
Experience:
  • 1-3 years Related experience (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (Required)
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) - National Association of Healthcare Quality Healthcare Quality Certification Board (required within 6 months of hire.)
  • Certified Clinical Document Specialist (CCDS) - International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (Preferred)
