We are looking for some PRN staff to join our Surgery department. Work hours will vary per need of the department. If you are a student, we would be willing to work with your school schedule. As a PRN employee you will be required to work a minimum of (1) 8 hour shift per month, (2) weekends per year and (1) holiday per year. This position is eligible for a 10% PRN premium.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Assists with simple procedures such as shave prep of surgical site, transfer of patients, positioning of patients and surgical skin preps.
- Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens.
- Verifies patient identification on name band and chart using 2 patient identifiers (name and birthdate) for any patient care related work.
- Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment.
- Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.
- Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.
Departmental Support
- Performs routine cleaning on equipment.
- Assists in department cleaning and storing of supplies and linen.
- Assists with OR room turnover including opening sterile supplies and instruments.
- Performs tasks as delegated by OR team members.
- Provides back-up coverage for anesthesia technician.

- Fulfills call requirements as designated by department needs.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of AORN, AAMI, HIPAA, Joint Commission, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within designated time frame.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
- This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH-Dubuque Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.

Education:
High school diploma/GED or
currently & actively working towards completion of diploma/GED
Successful completion of Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) program with active registration on Iowa Direct Care Registry
- OR at least at a junior level in an accredited BSN program
Experience:
Previous healthcare experience
License(s)/Certification(s):
Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or within three (3) months from date of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Other:
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
- State of Iowa Mandatory Reporter Training possessed or completed within 6 months of hire.
