Patient Care Assistant Job at Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson
POSITION: Patient Care Assistant
JOB SUMMARY: Applicant must be a dependable, compassionate, self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and a strong team spirit. Must apply good human relation skills, good animal handling skills, and must be an effective communicator. He/she must project a professional image.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Keep bedding and litterboxes in occupied cages clean and dry.
· Clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels, cages, and runs.
· Wash food and water dishes and keep kitchen area clean.
· Prepare post euthanasia patients for transportation to crematory.
· Walk hospitalized dogs several times a day to provide exercise and time for elimination of bowels and bladder.
· Clean up animal waste.
· Assist technicians in obtaining patient vitals.
· Document care in treatment plan system.

EDUCATIONAL/REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- Veterinary Assistant Certificate preferred
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1-year experience preferred
- Strong communication skills with staff, ancillary personnel, medical support personnel and doctors
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Position requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds (work requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals-with assistance from other staff members for animals weighing over 50 pounds)
