Reports to the lab manager. No supervisory responsibilities unless otherwise assigned. To be successful in this position one must be friendly, polite, tactful and professional in appearance and manner at all times. Must be able to communicate with the physicians and be mindful of patient confidentiality.

Hours: Monday through Friday from 6pm-2:30 am or 2:30am-11am.

As assigned, but not limited to, the following:

  • Enter Patient demographics into Pathlogix
  • Display knowledge of proper procedure for entering and discrepancies on patient form using Pathlogix to document
  • Identification of accepted insurance information
  • Type accurately and efficiently
  • Identify DIF specimens and notify Pathology Clerk 1 upstairs
  • Ability to use proper procedure for transferring specimen due to unaccepted insurance
  • Proficient in identifying client locations
  • Ability to sort reports and distribute to clients
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area
  • Display advanced phone etiquette
  • Contact client to verify information or trouble-shoot problems/issues
  • Display proficiency in retrieving prior/archived pathology reports
  • Enter patient insurance information into Pathlogix
  • Accessioning specimens
  • Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA standards
  • Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA Standard Precautions
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Chemical Hygiene Practices
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Occasional overtime as needed

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of typing at least 40 WPM.
  • Transcription of medical related documents preferred.
  • One year in a pathology lab preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
