We are seeking part-time Paraeducator Instructors (noncredit) who will be working either at Pierce College Puyallup campus or offsite at one of our local school district locations.

The overall purpose of the Paraeducator Instructor (noncredit) is to instruct currently employed Paraeducators from local K-12 school districts in a noncredit Paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study program as required by the Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board. Instructional materials and course outcomes have been developed in order for the instructor to teach from a detailed, standardized curriculum. Instruction will include training Paraeducators in four specific areas to include: supporting educational outcomes, demonstrating professionalism and ethical practices, supporting a positive and safe learning environment, and to communicate effectively to participate in the team process. This position requires regular and consistent attendance.

Essential Functions

Instruction:

  • Facilitate the Paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study curriculum as assigned.
  • Establish group norms, facilitate discussions, and answer questions as appropriate.
  • Conduct assigned classes in a manner that promotes student success.
  • Adapt teaching to the differences in student learning styles.
  • Encourage students to participate in group activities and to collaborate with one another in class.
  • Work effectively with students and colleagues of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Administrative Support:
  • Provide department with detailed recordkeeping of student attendance after each class session.
  • Distribute and collect course evaluation forms and return to department after the end of each course assigned.
  • Respond to requests of information from supervisor and department staff in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Education or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with Paraeducators in the K-12 school system.
  • Training in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience working with students and parents/legal guardians from economically disadvantaged communities.
  • Experience working with English as a second language students and their parents/legal guardians.
  • Experience working with students with special needs and their parents/legal guardians.
  • Experience working with adult learners in a classroom setting.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with a special emphasis on PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to navigate the Internet and use Google Docs.

Terms of Employment:
This is a part-time hourly position. The incumbent must be flexible and willing to work varying shifts. Applicants must have the ability to work on Saturdays on weeks assigned. Positions are hourly and will not exceed 14 hours of work per week. Positions are located at the Pierce College Puyallup and/or off site local school district location. All positions may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites. This position is not eligible for healthcare benefits. The instructional rate is $50.00 per hour (up to 14 hours per course).
Physical Work Environment:
This position is required to work indoors in an office environment..
