REQUIRED SKILLS:

Position is located in Panama City, FL.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Lays out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections, for example shafting and steam lines.

· Installs below deck auxiliaries, for example evaporators, reverse osmosis units, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers and connects them to various ships systems.

· Tests and inspects installed machinery and equipment.

· May also set up and operate such machine shop tools as lathe, boring mill, planer, shaper, slotter, and milling machine to fabricate replacement parts.

· Repairs and maintains diesel engines used to power ships, using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools

· Diagnoses trouble, disassembles engines, and examines parts for defects and excessive wear.

· Reconditions and replaces parts, for example pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.

· Positions, aligns, fits, and welds parts to form complete units or sub-units, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.

· Monitor engine, machinery, or equipment indicators

· Maintain electrical power, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, or sewerage systems.

· Note gauge readings or test data, such as revolutions per minute or voltage output, in engineering logs

· Start engines to propel ships and regulate engines and power transmissions to control speeds of ships, monitor and test operations of engines or other equipment so that malfunctions and their causes can be identified.

· Maintain or repair engines, electric motors, pumps, winches, or other mechanical or electrical equipment or assist other crew members with maintenance or repair duties.

· Perform general marine vessel maintenance or repair work, such as repairing leaks, finishing interiors, refueling, or maintaining decks.

· Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.

· Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.

· Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

· Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
