Job Title: Optometric Scribe/Medical Assistant

We're a progressive, medical-based eye health & wellness practice seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Optometric Scribe/Medical Assistant. Must be a team player, demonstrate a kind, caring personality and positive attitude.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Documenting detailed patient notes in the EHR system
  • Becoming proficient in optometric processes/procedures and using a team approach in patient supervision and documentation
  • Working closely with the Doctor to finalize charts and completing administrative tasks efficiently
  • Educating patients about prescribed treatments, eyewear, medications, testing and follow up care
  • Scheduling patients for return appointments, completing and submitting referral requests as necessary
  • Following up on progress notes created from no-show and cancelled appointments, ensuring patients are rescheduled, and prescribed care is delivered in a timely manner
  • Assisting with sending ERx and medication prior-authorizations
  • Adhering to confidentiality protocols to ensure protection of patient records at all times

Secondary/backup duties include but are not limited to:

  • Rooming and working up patients, acquiring necessary vitals, medical history & chief complaint of patient, preparing patient chart by entering diagnosis, pretest findings, refraction and other relevant information into the EHR system
  • Performing pre-test, visual acuity checks, dilation, diagnostic testing & imaging as ordered by doctor
  • Cleaning & sanitizing exam rooms and all instruments
  • Assisting patients with contact lens education and performing insertion & removal trainings for new contact lens wearers
  • Presenting insurance benefit information to patients prior to Comprehensive Eye Exam services and answering questions as necessary
  • Answering phones and assisting with acute care tirage

Required skills and abilities:

  • Proven experience in a clinical or health & wellness setting
  • Ability to expertly document patient care and transcribe patient appointments
  • Advanced computer skills to assure accuracy of all documentation
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good chairside manner and interpersonal skills to communicate with patients effectively

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
