STEWARTVILLE CARE CENTER – JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: SCHEDULER

SUPERVISOR –DON & ADON

POSITION SUMMARY: The Nursing Scheduler provides nursing secretarial assistance to the nursing supervisor, and contributes to the overall organization of the nurses’ station and staff scheduling.

Broad objectives are given by the supervisor; however, the Nursing Scheduler develops methods to achieve desired results.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 yrs Office Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year vocational training in health care or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year previous health care or related experience.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures and equipment, including fax and copy machine and computer.
  • Able to organize and prioritize projects.
  • Follows/Adheres to organizational policies and guidelines.
  • Able to do basic math.
  • Able to read, write, spell, speak and understand English.
  • Maintains neat, well-groomed appearance, adhering to company dress code.

Does the monthly and daily nursing department scheduling.

  • Does the monthly and daily nursing department scheduling.
  • Assists with hiring/orientation.
  • Utilizes excellent communication skills to provide a supportive working environment at the nurses’ station.
  • Performs special projects and assignments in nursing and medical records which may not be recurring.
  • New nursing staff orientation.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.

Scheduler Duties

  • Prepare schedule in 4 week intervals
  • Make out daily assignments
  • Prepare daily staff report
  • Replace call-in
  • Replace LOA’s and vacations-- assigned weekends and holidays are employee responsibility to fine coverage.
  • Maintain Holiday schedule
  • Maintain telephone list
  • Check lockbox daily for request etc..
  • Post open shifts
  • Vacation trade / call in slips – check if signed and dated by 2 staff or one staff if themselves.
  • All trades must be approved by DON.
  • Turn all slips to business office
  • Any Change or request / concerns must be reviewed with DON prior to any change put on a schedule book.

Environment

The Nursing Scheduler works inside a climate controlled building with normal temperature range.

Equipment

Personal computer, fax and copy machine.

Physical/Sensory and Cognitive Requirements

  • Occasionally pushes/pulls over 50 pounds, e.g., residents in wheelchairs
  • Continuously uses hands, arms for moderately difficult manipulation such as typing, filing, writing, keeping desk area clean.
  • Frequently performs tasks requiring action of muscles or groups of muscles such as walking, stooping, putting away supplies, delivering mail, assisting resident back to their rooms, etc.
  • Frequently performs tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as typing, writing, inputting information into computer, etc.
  • Walk, stands, twists, bends to the floor, kneels, squats, and sit s to perform essential job functions.
  • Frequently sits for prolonged periods to perform essential job functions.
  • Frequently articulates with extreme accuracy with precision to make self understood in face t face interactions, speaking on the phone, paging, communication with family members, residents, co-workers, etc.
  • Frequently sees objects closely for reading, proofreading and typing.
  • Continuously hears normal sounds and voices with some background noise to receive verbal instructions, answer phones, intercom, communicate with residents, family, coworkers, etc.
  • Frequently to continuously concentrates on moderate and/or fine detail with constant interruptions.
  • Frequently attends to tasks/functions for 10-60 minutes at a time, e.g., running errands, updating on computer, filing, typing, etc.
  • Continuously understands and relates to specific ideas, generally several at a time, e.g., filing, answering phone, talking to supervisors or residents, etc.
  • Continuously understands and relates to concepts and theories behind specific ideas.
  • Continuously remembers multiple verbal and written tasks/assignments given at beginning of a period extending several days or months.

Working Hours

Eight hour work day, Monday – Friday work schedule. May be requested to stay beyond normal work day if urgent need arises.
