The Northbrook Park District is hiring actors for its first Theatre for the Very Young production, Wake Up Brother Bear. We are seeking those who have interest in and/or experience in teaching artistry, actors who enjoy collaborative devising and improvisation; and actors who are interested in performing up-close and interacting with audiences as part of the performance experience. Experience with very young children is a plus. Performers of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to apply.
This performance is designed for children ages 2 to 5 and their families. The performance includes moments of sensory engagement between performer and audience members and will be presented in the round for an audience of 30 people at a time.
Please note: All applicants must audition. Once your application is complete you will be emailed a link to sign up for an audition timeslot. Auditions will be held on November 29 and December 2 from 10am-1pm at Northbrook Theatre.
Wage & Shift Information
$18.00 per hour, $90.00 per performance

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attends auditions and/or casting calls in order to audition for roles.
  • Rehearses and performs assigned roles in plays and/or musicals as assigned and appears in theatre performances.
  • Understudies a role or roles and performs such role(s) in rehearsal or performance, as needed.
  • Collaborates with other actors as part of an ensemble.
  • Research assigned character(s) in script and their relationships to each other in order to develop character interpretation(s).
  • Perform humorous and serious interpretations of emotions, actions, and situations, using body movements, facial expressions, and gestures as needed.
  • Sings, acts and/or dances during performances.
  • Study and rehearse roles from scripts in order to interpret, learn and memorize lines, songs, choreography, and cues as directed.
  • Attends meet and greet following performance of NTYA shows.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
Degree from a four‐year college or university with theatre focus and past experience acting in a live theatre production.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to more than 50 lbs. Workers are allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline. Working in teams will also allow workers to have assistance with heavier activities at various sites. Lifting also requires bending, stooping, carrying and twisting.
