The Rescue Mission is seeking a fulltime Kitchen Assistant to work on our Main Campus in Syracuse. The Kitchen Assistant assists with meal preparation and serving. The candidate would receive and retrieve food orders and donations. Candidate must maintain a sanitary food service environment by cleaning equipment, dishes, cooking pots, floors and walls. Candidate must comply with Department of Health regulations, food safety procedures, inventory control and maintenance processes. Must have good communication and customer service skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Handles food preparation tasks as directed by the Production Cook and/or Director of Food Services.
• Receives and picks up food donations and deliveries. Logs all receivables and properly stores them in the cooler, freezer, or stockroom.
• Rotates stored foods, removes all expired or improperly maintained foods to ensure compliance with Department of Health food safety regulations
• Cleans and sanitizes all food preparation equipment, tools, and dishware. Cleans and sanitizes floors, walls, tables and chairs.
• Promotes a safety first attitude by setting a positive example and ensuring all employees are following safety policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with community when picking up donations.

Education Requirements / Previous Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Prior experience in a food services setting

• Maintains employee-guest/client boundaries at all times.
• Must comply with CDC guidelines regarding Covid-19, including but not limited to, wearing a mask when working.
• Full vaccination against Covid-19 including Booster (when eligible) is strongly encouraged.
