The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking a Network Engineer who will provide support for an ongoing DoD Cybersecurity research and development program in San Diego, CA. Candidate will be required to research cutting edge and emerging technologies in support of developing Cybersecurity requirements for the DoD. Hands on experience with various OEM network appliances and environments is required. The candidate must have strong knowledge of TCP/IP; sub-netting; super-netting; routing principles; routing protocols; VPNs; and switching technologies. Candidate should have the experience, ability and willingness to support installation activities. Experience working in an Agile development environment is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in performing analysis, being a problem solver, and a team player who is capable of working in a technically challenging environment.

Job Purpose

Network engineers lead technical teams through Systems definition and requirements engineering, network design synthesis, and Network analysis and the design, implementation, operation and technical management of Systems projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments.
  • Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, Network analysis and implementation).
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architecturesfor Network of high complexity.
  • Define/refine internal and external interfaces.
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Deploy real-time, network situational awareness allowing for proactive and predictive management of the network.
  • Perform system installations, configuration management enforcement, system sustainment and upgrades, and distance support
  • Analyze issues in an enterprise LAN shipboard and/or Operations/Data Center environments to determine the best course of action towards resolution.
  • Provide network component break-fix to include servers, storage arrays, routers, switches, desktops, firewalls, server/switch chassis, etc.
  • Interface with Government Sponsors regarding the proper approach to maintaining networks and associated components and capabilities.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum an M.S. in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Network Engineering or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 7+ years experience supporting networked information systems development, deployment and/or sustainment.
  • Solid technical understanding of network architectures to include network appliances; security appliances; application services; virtual environments; network management tools; network protocols; network troubleshooting; and optimizing network performance
  • Ability to use software, tools, and scripts to configure, monitor, troubleshoot and repair network equipment
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting network problems
  • Good working experience with switching technologies and concepts
  • Schedule and perform network maintenance, repair, and upgrade tasks as needed while limiting the impact on the production network
  • Understanding and using network analysis tools
  • Capability to accurately communicate relevant project technical information to stake holders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Security+ or CISSP Certification
  • Operating System Certifications e.g. Windows/Linux
  • Cisco Certification; e.g., CCNA, CCNP
  • Understanding of DOD information technology and security architectures

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

  • 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Network Engineering or a related technical field
  • 7 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Network Engineering or a related technical field
  • 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Network Engineering or a related technical field

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
