Job Summary
Eastern Washington University’s Marketing and Communications department is seeking a full-time Multimedia Specialist. Primary responsibilities include planning, shooting and editing still photographs for university publications, student recruitment materials, Eastern magazine and athletic and alumni events. In addition, this position requires a full, working knowledge of digital video production including camera operation, lighting, sound, motion graphics creation and post-production.

Applicants must possess strong photography skills and be competent with studio lighting techniques, both in the studio and on location. Applicants should be comfortable with the basic aspects of video production, including working knowledge of various camera models and formats, lighting, sound and post-production.

Successful candidates must demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills. This position requires working in a team environment on various projects throughout EWU’s campuses and the greater Spokane region. Candidates must be able to take direction and implement the vision of graphic designers and art directors, as well as often acting in a self-directed fashion, while adhering to university brand standards and comprehensive messaging strategies.

Required Qualifications
  • Two or more years of professional experience in photography and multimedia production
  • Demonstrated ability to complete video/photography projects from inception to completion
  • Proven success in storytelling, interviewing and creativity
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and effectively set priorities
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience in promoting universal accessibility, cultural competency and/or diversity

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in photography, videography, design, journalism, communications, art,
    or related field
  • Experience flying drones for professional aerial photography or willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated experience curating digital assets on platforms like Photoshelter and Google Drive
  • Motion graphics animation experience
  • Experience working in project management systems like Asana
  • Supervisory, project management, teaching or mentoring experience
  • Experience working in higher education or the public sector

Other Skills and Abilities
This position also requires:
  • Keeping an up-to-date photo schedule
  • Weekly shooting of both stock photography and stock video footage
  • Understanding and maintaining photo archival software and methodologies
  • Ability to post projects to websites using products like Photoshelter and YouTube

The ideal candidate will have two or more years of professional photo/video experience. The candidate must excel in creativity and be able to juggle multiple tasks. We’re looking for a self-starter with strong storytelling skills and a deep commitment to helping mentor student photographers and videographers when given the opportunity.
