MSTP - Systems Administrator – Simulation Tech

Job Summary

Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) is seeking a Systems Administrator - Simulation Tech to develop, run tests, implement, and maintain operating systems and related software. Establishes and implements standards for computer operations for compatibility between hardware and software, according to specifications and parameters. Troubleshoots and resolves software, operating system, and networking problems. Schedules, performs, and monitors system backups and performs data recoveries.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Create the Simulation‐Stimulation (SIM‐STIM) environment for MSTP exercises/training events/wargames, and exercises/training events/wargames in which MSTP participates.
  • Integrate the C2 systems, with the Joint, Live, Virtual and Constructive simulation systems for MSTP exercises/training events/wargames, and exercises/training events/wargames in which MSTP participates.
  • Create (new) databases for the C2 and simulation systems for MSTP exercises/training events/wargames, and exercises/training events/wargames in which MSTP participates.
  • Install and configure software version updates to maintain concurrency between the C2 systems used by the operating forces and the C2 systems used by MSTP during exercises/training events/wargames, and exercises/training events/wargames.
  • Install patches and updates to C2 and simulation systems, ensuring compliance with password, other system security measures, and cybersecurity policy and orders.
  • Ensure the simulation system or federation technically supports the planned training exercise and advise on ways to prevent or work around technical difficulties.
  • Maintain and design simulation system network diagrams.
  • Configure network equipment and services to enable the event LAN and simulation systems to connect to the WAN.
  • Maintain the simulation networks and architecture to ensure all nodes are properly stimulating the training audience in compliance with exercise plans and the Simulation Control Plan.
  • Manipulate the simulation as directed by the Senior Control.
  • Submit comments on exercise issues and their recommended corrections for inclusion into the M&S after action report (AAR).
  • Secure and monitor modeling and simulation hardware and software in garrison and during MSTP exercises/training events/wargames, and exercises/training events/wargames in which MSTP participates.
  • Continuous proficiency installing, configuring, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining the virtual and constructive simulation systems used most commonly by MSTP: MAGTF Tactical Warfare Simulation System (MTWS), Joint Deployment Logistics Model (JDLM), and Air, Space and Cyberspace Constructive Environment - Information Operations Suite (ACE-IOS) as part of the JLVC Federation.


The mission of the MSTP is to provide training in MAGTF across the range of military operations, within the context of a Joint and/or Combined Task Force environment, to improve the warfighting skills, with the main effort of providing training in support.


Required Skills/Qualifications

  • IAT Level II
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and Windows Server Update Services; Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS); Host Based Security System; and IBM BigFix. Experience in Windows Servers, Linux Red Hat Servers environments (virtual and bare metal)


Desired Skills/Qualifications

  • Mid-Level – Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent w/ 3+ Years Direct Relevant Experience
  • Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
