Microtomy Technician - Histology Job at HNL Lab Medicine
Full-time, 40 hours per week, evening shift, 2:00PM - 10:30PM, Monday-Friday with Sunday rotation
SUMMARY:
Performs embedding and microtomy on surgical and autopsy specimen material for clinical diagnosis.
PURPOSE:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintains knowledge of anatomy, pathology and medical terminology to appropriately perform job duties.
- Identifies, embeds and performs microtomy on surgical and autopsy tissue and cytology cell blocks according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Processes tissues utilizing automated techniques according to departmental SOPs.
- Performs various sectioning and H+E staining and coverslipping techniques.
- Prioritizes/reorganizes work to respond to workload and/or STAT requests.
- Participates in continuing education programs, as applicable.
- Performs necessary barcoding functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
Associate’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution; or equivalent education and/or experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Word processing, Spreadsheets, E-mail, Laboratory Information Systems
