The Customer Service Division is looking for qualified individuals to fill the position of Meter Reader I / Meter Reader II. This position is responsible for reading meters, reporting malfunctioning meters, and unauthorized connections. Performs the turn on and turn off process. Knows meter routes, meter locations, and performs customer contacts in the field. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Meter Reader Supervisor who evaluates performance based on observation, meeting, and number of meters read, accuracy and achievement of desired results.


Representative Duties


Meter Reader I

Reads water meters and record usage, requires walking up to 8 miles per day. Reports meters needing repair and replacement. Checks for meter tampering. Identifies and reports unauthorized connections. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Meter Reader II

All of the duties of the Meter Reader I AND Read sewer meters and special meters. Knows locations of all meters and has working knowledge of all meter routes. Interacts with staff and the public, explains County and department policies and procedures. Fills in for Meter Reader I as assigned. Be assigned to assist other Meter Readers.


Minimum Qualifications


Meter Reader I/II

Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather, be in good physical health and able to walk five to eight miles per day.


Meter Reader II

One (1) year experience as a Meter Reader I or equivalent position.

Working Hours: Monday – Friday / 7:00am – 3:00pm
