Southwestern Community Action Council is a private non-profit agency whose mission is to facilitate the social and economic well-being of low-income families in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, and Wayne counties in West Virginia. We are a leader in the development and provision of a variety of community programs and services provided by qualified, highly trained, client focused staff. Our programs include Early Head Start / Head Start, the Mason County Homeless Shelter, Weatherization Assistance, Case Management / Homemaker Services, Senior Community Services (Mature Worker), and Veteran Supportive Services.
We currently have an opening for a Mental Health Coordinator for our Head Start/Early Head Start program in Huntington, WV to join our team and achieve great things together.

Pay Details (subject to change)

Level I: $20.39/hour Level II: $22.19/hour Level III: $24.19/hour

Level Qualifications

Level I. B.A. Degree in Psychology, Early Childhood Education or related area.

Level II. M.A. /M.S. Degree in Psychology, Early Childhood Education; or, related area.

Level III. M.A. /M.S. Degree in Psychology, Early Childhood Education; or, related area, plus one year experience working with young children.

Basic Qualifications

Must have: the ability to observe, review and analyze data; be able to enhance teaching practices to meet school readiness goals; follow Head Start performance standards; have the abilitytocoordinate, organize and manage; self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision; good writing skills; good communication and problem solving skills with the ability to work as a team; good computer skills; valid driver’s license with safe driving record. Must successfully pass background check and drug screen.

Position Details (This is a sampling of duties and responsibilities of this position)

Responsible for coordinating mental health services in Head Start and Early Head Start. Responsible for supervision of Behavioral Specialists. Responsible for monitoring screenings and ensuring accurate documentation of the screening. Work with staff to ensure delivery of services. Develop program policies, procedures and goals for the mental health service area. Work with HS/EHS Director to have Mental Health Consultant contracts completed and approved each year. Work with the Mental Health Consultants to provide resources and service for families, children and staff. Work cooperatively with Mental Health Consultants and ensure proper documentation is received in a timely manner. Work with Local Education Agency to ensure individuals are receiving support. Monitor and ensure compliance with program policies and procedures. Responsible for identifying and providing referrals. Responsible for the documentation of the progress of participants in the program. Prepare and maintains program records, reports and documentation. Provide coordination of services for behavior plans. Responsible for the delivery of program information and objectives to service organizations and community agencies also for community outreach. Must have knowledge of mental health and wellness resources and be able to train staff and families on mental health topics and practices. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Evaluate the effectiveness of the mental health services in the Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Assist in the classroom as needed. Must have the ability to train other people to apply behavior management techniques effectively. Must have knowledge of and know how to work with various support systems that are available in the community. Must know and understand state and federal laws and regulations associated with special education. Must be able to handle emotionally charged situations. Report possible cases of child abuse, neglect or endangerment to the proper authorities.
