Position Responsibilities:

  • Communicates at shift change and follows through on pending orders or shipments from previous shift.
  • Performs and documents Quality Control. Reports significant deviations to the supervisor/manager. Documents corrective action.
  • Organizes work to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Determines specimen acceptability and priority taking action accordingly.
  • Maintains a minimum inventory of blood products and reagents to ensure adequate patient care and sufficient supplies for the oncoming shift.
  • Recognize and take corrective action when equipment failure occurs to ensure proper storage conditions of blood products and continuity of patient care.
  • Performs blood types with 100% accuracy. Investigates and reports all instances when blood types to not agree with historical type.
  • Selects the correct product from inventory (autologous directed CMV etc.) taking into account the special needs of the patient.
  • Correctly identifies incompatibilities and need for further testing.
  • Handles problems with patient care or special requests from medical staff or pathologists in the absence of the supervisor/manager.
  • Teach and train staff or students as assigned. Assesses competency of staff.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to asses the situation and determine an appropriate course of action.
  • Performs charge tech duties in the absence of on-site supervisor/manager. Makes adjustments on schedules / workstation assignments as needed.
  • Communicates and documents any unusual occurrences or deviations from routine operations in the Communication Log or to the supervisor/manager.

Qualifications:

  • Commensurate with licensure requirements
  • Licensed by the State of Florida (or eligible) in appropriate specialties such as (Chemistry,Hemology,Serology)
  • National certification preferred
  • Three years experience in Hematology and Chemistry.
