Summary:

Boulder Medical Center (BMC) is currently seeking Medical Assistant (MA) and Endoscopy Scrub Technician candidates to join our Endoscopy / GI team! This position is benefit eligible working part-time Monday - Friday 24 hours per week. GI Lab is open Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm. The endoscopy scrub tech assists the Gastroenterologist in performing endoscopic procedures. The endoscopy scrub tech helps collect specimens during procedures, re-processes scopes, and maintains and verifies proper functioning of endoscopic equipment.

  • Day shift schedules are Monday through Friday. There are occasional voluntary four (4) hour shifts on Saturday mornings from 8 am - 12 pm for several primary clinics (Family Medicine and Pediatrics).
  • Experience working in both primary care and specialty care clinics.

Job Duties:


  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic medical terminology and GI anatomy. Maintains a safe environment for patient, physicians, coworkers, and self.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of scopes, maintenance, and care. Cleans, disinfects, and calibrates endoscopic instruments to strict manufacturer guidelines. Conducts safety checks to verify proper function of equipment.
  • Prepares procedure room according to facility standards. Anticipates and checks all equipment needs prior to procedure. Assist in the positioning of the patient. Assists in the performance of dilations, polypectomies, and biopsies. Assists in transfer of patient to recovery. Communicates patient information to the recovery RN.
  • Collects and labels specimens correctly.
  • Maintains inventory of endoscopic equipment and supplies. Assists in the ordering, unpacking and inventory of supplies
  • Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes them during each workday. Maintains logs needed in the cleaning area for chemicals and equipment use
  • Other duties as assigned by Unit Coordinator.

  • Must use good judgment in obtaining information required for appropriate scope care and maintenance.
  • Must be able remain calm under pressure and confident in a stressful environment.
  • Possesses basic computer knowledge, language skills, ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and or governmental regulations.
  • A strong aptitude for knowing and adhering to the policies, procedures, and state regulations.
  • Anticipate the needs of the patients, physicians, staff and the facility.
  • Performance reflects knowledge in all areas of care specific to ambulatory care, equipment safety, cleaning, maintenance, and procedures.
  • Ability to apply an understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of a high school degree.
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree with an concentration in science / health sciences are acceptable credentials to substitute Medical Assistant (MA) education. Applicant(s) must submit unofficial college transcripts for Medical Assistant (MA) job placement approval.

Previous Experience:

  • Previous surgical tech experience is preferred. Experience in GI or endoscopy is a plus.

Salary Range:

  • $18.36 - $23.50 / hour; depending on experience
