Through the apprenticeship, participants will work with medical assistants 20 hours per week at a partnering medical office (see PRACTICES for the full list). At the same time, they will receive blended classroom and online instruction from York County Community College’s (YCCC) medical assisting instructors. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will take a national accreditation exam to become Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA). Additionally, participants who successfully complete the program are eligible to receive up to 30 college credits in York County Community College’s Health Studies degree program.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) is assigned duties and responsibilities related to patient care in a team-based environment. The MA will assist providers in the care and treatment of patients, including administrative support, while promoting a smooth flow of patients through the office and helping to create a calm, supportive atmosphere. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care within their scope of practice and according to organizational policies, accrediting and licensing bodies.

  • Urolology
  • Women’s Health

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be accepted and enrolled into the York County Community College Medical Assisting Apprenticeship Program. Throughout the Apprenticeship, all courses including Skills Labs must be passes with a grade of C or better in order to remain in the Apprenticeship.
  • License/Certifications: Current BLS certification required prior to clinical training.
  • Experience: N/A
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff with the ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
  • Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image even under stressful situations.
  • Proficient computer skills.
