The breadth of the Jane Goodall Institute’s work reflects Dr. Goodall’s personal philosophy that the survival of all species depends upon collaboration, community, and valuing individuals’ contributions.

Core Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Director, Roots & Shoots, the Manager, Roots & Shoots Network supervises and supports contracted regional hub coordinators based in 4-6 U.S. cities representing key locations for Roots & Shoots advancement. As the national lead for this activity, the Manager establishes benchmarks and success criteria in the areas of educator recruitment, institutional relationships, National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) recruitment, and event management. The Manager works closely with the Roots & Shoots Director, Partnerships in these key locations. Additionally, the Manager administers the mini-grant program (nationally and through the regional hubs, oversees the NYLC, and collaborates with the Office of the Founder on Jane Goodall tours and webcasts. The manager also oversees regular video conferences with students and educators across the U.S., manages “at large” member registrations and handles educator inquiries.

Regular business travel is required.


Knowledge & Skills

The Manager has rich, hands-on experience working with nationally distributed field offices. They possess sharp operational skills and are able to track and support sets of activity in multiple locations. They possess an efficiency mindset as well as a mission mindset centered on educating young people as planetary stewards.

Additionally, the Manager will have:

  • Project management acumen, including organizational skills, multi-tasking, and the ability to prioritize competing projects.
  • Excellent communication skills (in-person, video conference and phone), through which program adherence, mission and goals are conveyed.
  • Proven ability to manage program operations; create, maintain and communicate schedules, disburse materials, and track data.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully across organizational units.
  • Success in attracting and maintaining productive contractors and vendors.
  • Ability to set ambitious goals, articulate goals internally, and report on program performance.
  • Ability to use financial data to support strategic decision-making and use financial indicators to modify program operations when necessary.
  • Proficiency with major software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience

  • 4-6 years experience in program management, preferably in a mission-based organization.
  • Proven ability to work remotely and effectively work within a team.

Minimum Education

  • B.A. or B.S.
