Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Staff are responsible for the daily tasks associated with facilities, events, and grounds. Daily responsibilities include blowing paths and parking lots (as-needed) before opening at 10:30am, check restrooms for cleanliness and stock three times per day, be available to relieve Gate Staff for breaks and lunches, reset Tea Garden tables and chairs prior to opening, sweep and clean Prep Area, scout for trash, unsightly garden areas, and/or hazards on grounds and report these issues accordingly. Additional regular duties include setting up/breaking down tables, chairs, and other equipment for events, classes, tours, etc. , preferring to have set up at least 24 hours in advance. Be available to receive deliveries and assist Horticulture Staff with plant deliveries, ensuring that gates are locked after receipt. Keep up with work orders as assigned, being sure to complete tasks based on their priority level before beginning a new task. Basic facilities upkeep to include changing light bulbs, restroom maintenance, tool sharpening and maintenance, table/chair cleaning, company vehicle upkeep, maintain organization of work areas, placing safety cones/barriers as needed for hazardous work, being present for events to act as on-site contact for logistical issues. Weekend and evening work required, as this is often when events are scheduled. Custodial care of all Gardens restrooms on Saturday and Sunday. Occasional assignments to assist Horticulture Staff with plantings and other large projects. Opportunities for creative input on events. Maintain a positive attitude with co-workers and visitors, greeting Library & Gardens visitors with a polite and affable manner. Having and using a radio to communicate with fellow staff required at all times. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications:

- Some experience in public greenspace like parks, gardens, zoos, etc.

- Familiarity with maintenance work for facilities

- Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50lbs regularly

Preferred Skills:

- Proficient use of basic tools like hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc., to include basic power

tools like drills, saws-all, grinder, etc.

- Some experience using leaf blowers, weed-whackers, and other small equipment

- Ability to quickly learn the use of other power tools and equipment under the instruction of FM

Manager and/or Horticulture Staff

- Some understanding of landscaping and plant care

- Excellent verbal communication

- Dependable, helpful, and professional

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.50 - $18.00 per hour
