Job Description

Responsible for increasing plant reliability, performance efficiency, minimizing unscheduled/unplanned plant interruptions and reducing costs associated to failures. Responsible for employee engagement by building positive working relationships and an environment where employees will want to offer their ideas. Develop and improve skill sets of internal craft resources. Oversees weekly Fab maintenance lists for continual plant improvement. This position reports to the Plant Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements and maintains a robust preventative maintenance program and plant/asset reliability program.
  • Monitors the performance of the maintenance department and provides coaching and correction when necessary.
  • Enforces safe work practices in the maintenance department.
  • Assures that new maintenance employees are properly trained by working with the superintendents and supervisors to establish a comprehensive training schedule.
  • Makes sure the maintenance department is submitting boiler and fire protection reports appropriately, as required.
  • Documents and investigates all accidents within the maintenance department.
  • Mentors the maintenance superintendents and ensures that person has all the tools and contacts necessary to expedite equipment repairs and work assignments.
  • Ensure reliability of plant equipment and establish and meet downtime and operational goals for the Fabrication, LD, Freezer and Coolers departments.
  • Work closely with QC and operations departments to ensure regulatory and 3rd party audit compliance in all areas, as well as SQF compliance.
  • Manage training programs to maintain the skill level of the hourly and salaried workforce. Motivate interest in, and ensure compliance with, stringent plant safety programs while maintaining high levels of labor efficiency and effectiveness in responding to breakdowns and plant interruptions.
  • Maintain close communications with operations and other plant departments and develop an appreciation for overall plant performance issues in all employees within the department.
  • Owns and ensures optimal operation of the plant’s refrigeration system to include regulatory and safety compliance.
  • Responsible for implementing measures and KPIs within the Fab department at all management levels and driving continual improvement towards best-in-class operations
  • Additional related duties as assigned.Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read electrical diagrams, have good electrical skills.
  • EE needs to have full knowledge of Cryovacs, Box Machines and Saws.
  • Management, strong leadership, computer and communication skills
  • Exposure to Quality Systems/Lean Manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, outlook, word and excel


    Education & Experience

  • Optional- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering/maintenance management capacity in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in leading multiple departments.
  • Solid understanding of the beef manufacturing business.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills to interface with senior leadership and the supplier, industry and regulatory communities.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to interpret data and report on audit results.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Work a minimum of 55+ hours per week in all areas of the plant.
  • Be able to communicate verbally and in written form in English
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in the building, mechanical and electrical trades.
  • MUST HAVE BEEF MANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE
