The City Clerk Department upholds public trust and protects local democracy by providing access to services and information on matters of public interest to residents, elected officials, city departments, and other customers. The City Clerk Department is seeking a candidate to fill their vacancy for a full-time Mail Service Worker.

Responsibilities include:

  • Handling and collecting interoffice mail;
  • Driving a city vehicle to other city departments and offices daily to make routine deliveries;
  • Sorting incoming US mail;
  • Operating a high-volume mail inserter;
  • Operating a mid-volume tabletop mail inserter;
  • Operating high-volume postage meters;
  • Hand delivering US mail and interoffice mail to city buildings;
  • Move trays, boxes, supplies, and other related items and operate various mail machinery.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers in person, through e-mail, or by telephone to answer technical and routine questions with tact and courtesy.
  • Knowledge of current postal rates and regulations.

SALARY


$16.09 (minimum) - $21.20 (maximum) hourly / $33,467.20 - $44,096.00 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $44,096.00 depending upon qualifications.

Additionally, effective 10/1/2022, Paid Parental Leave is now offered to eligible employees up to 480 hours (12 weeks) of paid leave for the birth, adoption or foster care placement of a child during a 12-month period.

Pension Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of clerical experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Prior mailroom experience.
  • Experience delivering, picking-up and collecting mail, parcels, and packages.
  • Experience using high-volume (10,000 + pieces per day) mail inserters.
  • Experience using high-volume postage meters.
  • Experience operating Pitney Bowes (or comparable) Flowmaster inserter and tabletop inserter.
  • Experience operating Neopost DS200 (or comparable) mail inserters (2,000+ pieces per day), and operation of postage meters.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office such as Excel to compile reports and prepare statistical information.
  • Ability to move objects weighing 50 pounds both short and long distances repetitively.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
