Summary

• Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, operating conventional, special purpose, and automatic machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. The ideal candidate shows strong attention to detail and works well in a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Performs set ups and operates automatic or other machines to produce parts according to blueprints, traveler package, specifications and/ or special instructions.
• Performs such operations as point, face, drill and broach, turning, slotting, chamfer, deburr and identify parts.
• Checks parts for conformance to specification using gages, SPC and shop floor system.
• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running.
• Sets up machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. Provides necessary information to manufacturing team, engineering team or others to document procedures and drawings.

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1 year in college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 1-2 years CNC screw machine experience/general machining ability (measuring devices/blue prints) preferred but not required
