POSITION JOB DESCRIPTION

Employees in this job will provide skilled nursing services to patients in the PPECC facility under the direction of our Director of Nursing, and provide a variety of related services.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

NOTE: Graduate of an accredited school for practical/vocational nursing

Licensed vocational nurse staffing standards:

  • Licensed vocational nurses working in a PPECC center must be supervised by a registered nurse and have the following qualifications and experience;

Hold a Current Texas licensed practical nurse license

  • (b) Have two (2) year’s experience in pediatrics; and Hold a current certification in CPR.

JOB DUTIES

The LVN administers nursing procedures to patients in accordance with patient's nursing care plans such as g-tube feeding, oxygen therapy, range of motion therapy, etc. Sets up prescribed medications in accordance with patients' nursing care plans.

  • Administers medications to patients orally, intra- or subcutaneously.
  • Monitors effects of medications; records medications given and patients' reactions.
  • Observes and monitors movement and activities of patients in the PPEC.
  • Assist/review MARS monthly and as needed to ensure accuracy.
  • Writes daily progress notes, nursing notes, and reports of unusual incidents.
  • Recognizes and promptly reports condition changes to supervisor.
  • Assists in carrying out rehabilitation programming and activities for the PPEC patient such as development of social skills and development of daily living skills.
  • Provides personal care services to patients including oral hygiene, bathing, and hair care as needed. Nail care, diapering, and dressing.
  • Records treatments given in patients' charts.
  • Takes, records, and monitors patients' vital signs.
  • Provides bed care to patients, re-positioning, ambulating, and assisting with elimination needs. Moving to and from wheel chairs, etc.
  • Assists patients at mealtime and feeds patients needing such assistance.
  • Performs safety and housekeeping assignments such as washing and changing beds.
  • Spot cleaning spills and making safety rounds.
  • Provides emergency assistance as needed.
  • Attends required in-service training.
  • Transcribes physicians' orders accurately and reports information to the physician accurately, concisely and timely.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Greets parents by name, offers assistance and is available as a resource.
  • Accompanies child when transported in and out of the center via non-emergency transportation for daily pick-up or drop off as directed by the A-D.O.N., D.O.N. or Administrator.
  • Accompanies child to hospital during emergency transportation as directed by the A-D.O.N., D.O.N. or Administrator.
  • Assists with admission and discharge procedures as directed by RN supervisor.

Physical Requirements

This job duties require the employee to handle the physical demands of the work including lifting and positioning patients up to 35 lbs, walking, use of restraints, and aggressive behavior management practices.
