Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing assigned health care services to Persons in Our Care. The individual in this position functions as a nursing team member in both infirmary and ambulatory settings. The LPN performs nursing procedures in situations, which require skilled technical care but do not require the direct supervision of the registered nurse.
In highly complex situations, the LPN works under specific direction of the registered nurse. The LPN is responsible for performing duties assigned by the registered nurse including assisting the RN to care for acutely ill patients, assisting in assessment of residents' health needs, making observations, reporting to the RN, and performing related documentation and record management activities.
Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 06-05 with pay starting at $24.65/hour - $29.36/hour , depending on qualifications.
Depending on the facility where the position is located, some of these vacancies may be eligible for a temporary $5.00/hr add-on for all hours worked. You can inquire at the time you are offered an interview about that facility’s current status. The temporary add-on(s) are approved through the date of implementation of the 2023-2025 State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Special Requirement: Qualified candidates must possess current Wisconsin licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse or must be eligible to obtain licensure by time of appointment.
Applicants will benefit from experience in: Assessing patients by making accurate observations of signs and symptoms which indicate change in physical or mental condition of the patient. Performing effectively in emergency situations. Working as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Maintaining a helpful and understanding attitude towards individuals exhibiting hostile or negative behavio r.

There will be a question related to Part-Time and Full-Time work. Full-Time work is any position with an expectation of 40 hours per week. Part-Time is anything less than 40 hours a week, some positions might be 90%, 80%, 60% et cetera. You would be notified of the percentage when offered an interview and would be able to choose whether to interview based on that information. You will not be able to change your Full-Time/Part-Time selection after you apply , so we encourage you to select your options based on what you might be interested in and would like to be contacted about.
