Licensed Practical Nurse Job at North Caddo Medical Center
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Licensed Practical Nurse administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a physician. They will assess the health status of assigned patients and collaborate with the Physician to establish a basis for patient care. Contributes to the planning of nursing interventions, administers medication, may perform specific I.V. therapy, documents and communicates changes in patient condition to other members of the health care team. Provides information regarding disease process and diagnostic procedures. Assists in scheduling referrals, appointments, and consults. Participates in staff development; continuing education programs and performance improvement and quality checks. Promotes consistent customer centered services. Respects patient’s right to privacy. Has the ability to plan and provide nursing care for patients with “age-related” problems. Assumes responsibility for own continuing education. The LPN must follow hospital and clinic policy and procedures. Additional job duties or functions, not related to their department, may be requested per administration to assist in other areas of the hospital within their capabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an approved Vocational Nursing Program. Current licensure in the state of Louisiana. Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NSP), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are preferred.

RESPONSIBLE TO:
Administration, Clinic Manager, Director of Nursing, and Physicians
PERFORMANCE POLICY:
The first three months of employment is the trial employment period. During this time, an employee or the employer may for any reason terminate employment with NCMC without retribution. If the job performance evaluation is found to be of high quality after the three month trial employment period, employment with NCMC will continue. Thereafter, employees will be evaluated annually. The evaluation of employees will encompass the following areas as related to their function and/or job in the clinic:

Courtesy Cooperation Initiative
Reliability Perseverance Attendance
Alertness Maintenance Troubleshooting

Must be able to promote harmonious relationships among staff, visitors, patients, and physicians.
Must conduct self in a professional manner at all times
Must accept assignments within job description

Must not steal from staff, patients, visitors, or the hospital
Must control self emotionally and maintain a stable psyche
Be able to perform job skills
Must utilize safety precautions, protect and provide safety for the patient (bed low, rails up, call bell within reach)
Must have command of manual dexterity to work with instruments, needles, etc.
Sensory:
Must be able to see clearly (corrective wear acceptable)
Must be able to hear adequately (hearing aid acceptable)
Must be able to speak clearly for proper communication
