Position: Lead Teacher, Education and Life Skills

Position Summary:

The Phillies are in search of a qualified Lead Teacher to supervise and support all education initiatives at the Phillies Academy in Boca Chica. The successful candidate will be dedicated to ensuring our players thrive in their professional and personal lives through secondary education, and life and interpersonal skills. Under the supervision of the Coordinator of DR Education, the Lead Teacher will supervise high school and life-skills instructors and programs, continuously develop, and improve curricula, evaluate player and program needs, and foster an overall positive educational environment. It should be noted that professional baseball is a demanding environment where players have a short window to work towards fulfilling their dreams, a successful candidate will be able to work to meet the players demands and schedule, which will lead to long hours, unpredictable hours and weekend demands.

Responsibilities:

• Under the supervision of the Coordinator of DR Education, oversee and teach CENAPEC, DAWERE, and life-skills programs in the DR Academy
• Coordinate life-skills workshops, INFOTEP programs, and all MLB related workshops
• Assist in evaluating potential programs, presenters, software, and other outside resources
• Maintain and audit education records for all players
• Lead workshops for instructors; provide guidance on education best practices and Phillies expectations
• Coordinate field trips, graduation, Family Day, community service experiences, and other events.
• Create and evaluate educational resources tailored to players' needs.
• Under the supervision of the Coordinator of DR Education, conduct culture and life-skills workshops to players and staff
• Evaluate and create individual plans for players and track learning progress
• Conduct individual and small group tutoring for players and staff as needed
• Assist in creating class schedules and handling other administrative tasks throughout the year
• Utilize technology in the classroom and as a tool for continued learning
• Monitor and guide student learning in virtual high school programs
• Oversee computer lab and laptop cart distribution
• Observe and support outside workshop presenters with attendance, technology support, and necessary supplies
• Maintain attendance records and student progress reports; submit required reports to Coordinator of DR Education
• Work closely with coaching staff and player development to understand player on field demands and make education and life skills an integrated part of our players development process

Required Qualifications:

• Fluency in English
• Bachelor's degree in math or science field (or near completion of degree)
• Experience teaching high school math/science and other related subjects
• Experience teaching life skills and familiarity with US culture and customs.
• Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills
• High level of demonstrated honesty, integrity, and professionalism
• Ability to work irregular hours to meet needs of staff and students
• A passion for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with players
• Have your own transportation, the facility's location in Boca Chica is not accessible via public transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of and passion for the game of baseball
• Experience working with out-of-school youth and other non-traditional students
• Experience teaching occupation-specific language
