Kids learn old-school outdoor skills: wilderness survival, farm craft, wild foraging, fishing, martial arts, boating, and more. All this in immersive camps and programs filled with epic story and adventure.


Job Summary

As a Lead Guide you take kids on outdoor adventures learning incredible skills. You may embark on a wilderness survival trek, go fishing, or even help create a story camp adventure with secret agents, wizards, or elves. This role is designed for individuals who want to teach outdoors. Lead Guides teach and supervise teams and campers while implementing and innovating on Trackers curriculum.


Responsibilities (What You’ll Do):

  • Provide fun, engaging, and safe experiences for campers and co-workers
  • Encourage independence in campers to align with Trackers Teams
  • Help ensure activities for each age group are developmentally appropriate and engaging
  • Implement Trackers schedules and programs
  • Teach speciality programs based on skills and experience:
    • Bushcraft, Archery, & Wilderness Survival Skills
    • Farm, Wildcrafting & Sustainability
    • Fishing, Boating & Mariners Skills
    • Outdoor Adventure: Rock Climbing or Kayaking
    • Photography, Ceramics, Woodworking or Blacksmithing
  • Be a mentor and remember what it’s like to be a kid
  • Follow all risk management and Trackers policies
  • Model and teach proper gear and tool usage, care, and organizational tidiness
  • Be prepared to respond to and/or assist in an emergency situation
  • Keep and safeguard confidential information
  • Promote and model the Trackers Code and culture
  • Report directly to a Trackers Coordinator
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Completed Vaccinations for COVID-19 (verification required)
  • Enthusiasm for Trackers and its programs. 16 years & up
  • Can exercise discretion and independent judgment in remote locations
  • Interest in developing and sharing outdoor skills with youth
  • Can adapt to changing logistics and collaborate on solutions in a calm, positive way
  • Capacity and enthusiasm to learn and teach wilderness skills and techniques
  • Model professionalism while supporting youth, families, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Can stand, bend, squat, climb, lift (up to 50 lbs), hike on and off trail (up to 5 miles) per day
  • For Lead Guides ages 18+ Trackers will complete pre-employment criminal background & references checks, which includes CBI, FBI and TRAILS and fingerprinting
  • Lead Guides need the following certifications (or able to complete before starting):
    • CPR/First Aid/Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine Auto-Injector through approved vendors
    • Food Handlers
    • State fishing license if guiding a program that includes fishing; an outfitters license is also helpful
    • Lifeguard certified for those guiding a program that is in or on the water; SUS, kayaking or other water sports certifications are helpful
    • NASP (or equivalent) Archery Certification
    • Climbing programs will need AMGA, PCIA or PCGI
    • Mandated Reporter Training (Offered on PDIS)
    • FEMA/Disaster Preparedness (FEMA - Emergency Management Institute (EMI) | National Preparedness Directorate National Training and Education Division)
    • Immunization Training (Offered on PDIS)
    • Standard Precautions (Trackers has a list of approved vendors)
    • Medication Administration Training Part One and Two (Part One is available on PDIS, Trackers can provide Part Two)
    • Injury Prevention (Offered on PDIS)
    • Playground Safety (Offered on PDIS)
    • 15 hours of site specific and camp specific training as required by the state of Colorado
    • Annual Health History Form with Immunizations
    • Boating, Canoeing, Sailing, and Kayaking on Flat water, and Rock Climbing and Ropes requirements, based on Colorado laws, will be reviewed if you apply for a role that requires certain qualifications


Location

Be able to report to any Denver worksite within 30 miles of our Denver Headquarters


Work Commitment

This is a temporary seasonal position. Year-round opportunities may be available based on seasonal summer performance and fall enrollment. Summer Guides must be available for all specified dates.

  • Summer Camps Full-time, June - September (Monday - Friday)
  • School Year Programs Part-time

2022 Salary


Starting salary for new Leads - $17.25

Starting salary for returning Leads - $17.50
