Responsibilities


I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under the immediate supervision of the Supervisor, performs all work involved in the picking up, processing, washing, drying, folding, and finishing of items that require cleaning, and the delivery of clean laundry and linens.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Essential: seeing, hearing, speaking, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent: reaching, standing for long periods of time, pushes/pulls heavy equipment/supplies with maximum of 50 pounds; lifts/carries maximum 50 pounds.
  • Occasional: stooping, bending, kneeling or crouching.
  • Operates washers/dryers, tablet computer, computer, multi-line telephone and other business type devices/equipment.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Exposed to infection and disease bearing specimens; odorous chemicals and specimens; housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals; hot and noisy equipment; heat and wetness; hot and humid work environment.
  • Possible exposure to sharps
  • Required Personal Protective Equipment - Eye protection; gown; mask; utility gloves; face protection.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent desirable.

B. EXPERIENCE:
  • Prior commercial or institutional laundering experience to demonstrate knowledge, care and operation of laundry equipment, and knowledge of preparing various solutions preferred.
  • One (1) year housekeeping experience required.
  • Experience to demonstrate:
o Ability to speak, read, write and understand English both orally and in writing.
o Knowledge of housekeeping practices, procedures and guidelines required.
o Basic computer skills needed to work automated systems and tablet computer.
o Knowledge of laundry equipment and chemicals preferred.
o Knowledge of laundry practices, procedures and guidelines preferred.
