The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing support for the mother-infant breastfeeding dyad as part of the CPSP Program. The tasks include assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation of lactation support and education for clients in the postpartum period at the Valley sites in coordination with OB and Pediatric Department providers. The Lactation Consultant will promote a breastfeeding-friendly environment at Eisner Health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Facilitates breastfeeding support on daily basis for pediatric patients

2. Facilities breastfeeding support for Postpartum clients in coordination with the CPSP Services at the Women’s Health Center

3. Promotes breastfeeding and assists mothers in reaching their own breastfeeding goals

4. Communicates with Pediatricians and OB/GYN providers as needed to improve lactation support for clients who elect to breastfeed

5. Coordinates with Health Education Supervisor the Lactation Clinic Support schedules

6. Reviews and Updates suitable educational materials to facilitate understanding

7. Obtains suitable educational materials to facilitate patient understanding

8. Adjusts teaching to meet patient and family needs

9. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient and family needs

10. Documents patient education and progress in accordance with practice standards within the EHR

11. Maintains professional growth in the area of educational techniques to promote quality patient education services

12. Support the efforts to increase breastfeeding support to all newborns seen in the Pediatric Department

13. Conducts Lactation Education Classes for patients and employees as needed

14. Willingness to work a flexible day shift schedule that includes Saturdays

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Lactation Consultant Certificate
  • Lactation Educator Certificate with 2 with or more years of experience in lactation support will qualify
  • Medical Assistant /Peer Counselor
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred
