Job Description
Manages the science lab at assigned campus and ensures classes are provided with all necessary supplies, equipment and adequate lab staff support.

Supervision
- Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and participates in the work of science lab staff responsible for performing chemical, biological, and physical laboratory preparation for courses.
- Monitors the science lab class schedule to ensure that all courses are adequately supported by lab staff including evenings and weekends.
- Ensures all lab staff are appropriately cross-trained to adequately support all lab classes.
- Monitors work activities of lab staff and faculty to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Ensures effective and regular communication with AA and AS science lab faculty and lab staff.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings with AA and AS science faculty.
- Maintains currency in trends and innovations in laboratory practices.
Safety
- Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
- Supervises the management and removal of biological and chemical waste
- Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
- Ensures all AA and AS lab faculty and lab personnel are current with required lab safety trainings each semester.
- Assists with onboarding new AA and AS science lab faculty (both full-time and adjunct) with required lab safety training and lab procedures.
Equipment
- Works closely with AA and AS science faculty to determine equipment and supply needs and generates requisitions for needed item.
- Maintains inventory of science materials and equipment and ensures proper maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Assists with annual campus equipment inventory activities.
- Assists with scheduling classes and room assignments in collaboration with Dean’s office and AA and AS faculty to ensure efficient and equitable use of facilities.
- Inspects safety equipment in lab classrooms and stockrooms; submits maintenance requests as needed.
- Assists AA and AS faculty with computer and software usage.
Budget
- Prepares annual budget proposal for operation of labs.
- Regularly monitors budget and communicates regularly with Dean’s office of budgetary needs and budget transfers
- Maintains current account of expenditures
- In collaboration with AA and AS science lab faculty, determines equipment and supply needs and generates requisitions for needed items.

- Completes annual analysis of cost per student for each laboratory class
- Assists with budget activities related to Perkin’s Grant.
- Performs other similar and related duties as assigned.
