The Clark County Las Vegas Justice Court is seeking qualified applicants for the Justice Court Intake Specialist position. This position acts as the first point of public contact for County detention locations where relations may be sensitive, difficult, or strained; obtains information required for determining release or retention; provide information to the public regarding criminal justice system activities and functions; performs a variety of basic office support; performs related work as assigned.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.
Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Equivalent to two (2) years of college level course work in Criminal Justice or a closely related field AND two (2) years of full-time general clerical or legal office support experience which has included dealing with the public. Experience which will have provided a basic knowledge of the criminal justice system, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the education.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

Working Conditions: Work in confined situations with exposure to potentially difficult or dangerous individuals.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent on the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Deals with individuals who have been arrested and callers related to such arrests that may have significant problems or require specialized services or in situations where relations are often confrontational or strained. Interviews individuals to obtain standard demographic, background and personal information; may outline eligibility for specified programs following specific guidelines to defendants. Completes various risk assessments, financial affidavits and provides to the court for use in release and bail determinations. Greets callers not included in the detention process, determines the nature of the visit or the problem and explains detailed policies, procedures and regulations related to the criminal justice system. Completes forms and/or enters data into a computerized system to produce reports. Accepts bail, prepares receipts and balances monies. Provides factual information regarding the functions, activities, policies and procedures of the department to which assigned. Uses a computer to enter data verify information and may make simple updates. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Performs a variety of basic office support duties such as collating materials, completing forms, proofreading typed or printed materials, and/or typing correspondence reports and other materials. May provide relief and assistance to other office support assignments.
